About Buffalo College

Council Chairperson

The merger process are now firmly behind us and the staff have strongly embraced the dawning of the Buffalo City College. Their enthusiasm to their calling and contributions beyond that of normal duty is noted and highly valued.

The last three years saw a significant investment by Government in the FET Colleges including our Buffalo City College via the recapitalization fund. The FETC Act of 2006 has also clarified the role of the College within the FET sector and this has motivated us all by clearly indicating our legislative mandate.

January 2008, marks a new era in governance, when Council takes over the reins and becomes the employer at the College. As Council, we will ensure the Buffalo City College is the employer of choice and the College of Choice for further studying vocational training.

An exciting future await the youth with the rollout of the new exciting National Certificate in Vocational Training. This includes our niche market courses in Mechatronics and Safety in Society.

We have reconfigured our campuses and introduced the School of Business, the School of Engineering and the Skills Development and Learnership Centre. Practical and applied training will be offered and learners will also get entrepreneurial training at our innovative business incubators.

Council is dedicated to redressing past imbalances and will actively promote the training of the females in the technical fields, implementing governments programme of action, ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation and very importantly access to education. In order to promote access to further opportunities, no deserving child will be turned away from our institution.

In response to the collective guidance given by Council members and Provincial Department staff, the management tabled a vibrant and realistic strategy that is full endorsed by Council including a realistic operations plan.

Our key strategy relates to providing access to affordable, high quality appropriate vocational training that responds to market needs.

As we strive for Excellence in Vocational Training, I want to thank the Members of the Executive Council , Hon J Makgatho, the Provincial Chief Director, Mr Khaya Ngaso my fellow councilors and the management and staff of the College including the learners for their active support and co-operation.

God Bless
